Ringworm, medically termed Dermatophytosis or Tinea, is an infection of the skin, scalp, nails, and feet caused by fungus. It is rather common.

Despite its name, ringworm is actually not caused by a worm. The most common causes are dermatophyte fungi, including Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton.

It spreads easily through direct contact with infected people, animals, or contaminated objects such as towels, clothes, and gym equipment.

Description/ Symptoms

Ringworm can occur on any part of the body, and the symptoms differ according to the part affected.

Circular, red, itchy rash with a raised border and clear center (ring-shaped).

Scaling, cracking, or peeling of the skin.
