About Hair Fall

Hair fall, also known as alopecia, is when hair sheds more quickly than it grows.

It is normal to lose up to 50–100 hairs per day; more than this, however, may indicate a problem.

✳️ Common Types of Hair Fall:

Androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness) is genetic and hormonal.

Telogen effluvium: temporary shedding due to stress, illness, or nutritional deficiency.

Alopecia areata: an autoimmune disease that attacks the hair follicles.

Traction alopecia: from tight hairstyles.

Scarring alopecia: usually results from an infection or some other cause of inflammation that is destructive to hair roots.

What to Do (Treatment & Prevention)

1. Keeping a Healthy Scalp

Regular washing with a mild, sulfate-free shampoo will help to remove dirt and oil.

Massage your scalp for 5-10 minutes, using your fingertips or natural oils-coconut oil, castor oil, rosemary oil, and argan oil-to increase blood flow.

Keep scalp clean and hydrated.

2. Eat Well and Healthy

Include foods rich in:

Protein: eggs, lentils, chicken, fish

Iron: spinach, red meat, beans

Zinc & Selenium: nuts, seeds

Vitamin D & B-complex: sunlight, eggs, dairy

Omega-3 fatty acids: fish, flaxseeds, walnuts

3. Medical & Clinical Treatments

Minoxidil (Rogaine): topical solution used to stimulate hair regrowth.

Finasteride (Propecia): oral medication, for men only; this blocks the DHT hormone.

PRP is the injection of your own blood plasma to stimulate follicles.

Low-Level Laser Therapy improves hair thickness and growth.

Hair transplant is a permanent solution for severe hair loss.

4. Lifestyle Habits

Sleep for 7 to 8 hours every night.

Reduce stress through yoga, meditation, or exercise.

Drink plenty of water.

Protect hair from the sun and pollution by using a scarf or cap.

What Not to Do

❌ Don't use harsh chemicals (bleach, dyes, relaxers).

Avoid tight hairstyles: hair styles that consistently pull from the roots include braids, ponytails, and buns.

❌ Do not overuse heat stylers-straighteners, dryers, or curlers.

❌ Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol since both reduce scalp blood flow. ❌ Don't skip meals; nutritional deficiencies lead to more shedding. ❌ Avoid unverified hair oils or pills sold online without medical approval.
